I like all kinds of music--old and new. But, a lot of newer stuff I listen to, though I may enjoy it I don't think it has staying power. It's catchy, but fairly disposable. I probably won't be going back to it again and again the way I do, for instance, an album by The Beatles.

I like older bands. Not as much as the newer ones, but I defintely keep a lot of Zeppilin, Iron Maiden, Journey, etc. None of that hip hop garbage though. No offense intended to anybody who enjoys that kind of music!

Thanks for clearing that up! I don't like hip hop either, but I try to be respectful of anyone who can actually stand to listen to it. One of my favorite CD's so far this year ('Plastic Beach' by Gorillaz) has a handful of hip hop tracks on it, so I burned myself a copy and left off all the hip hop noise. I like Led Zeppelin a lot, and Jimmy Page would get my vote for all-time best rock guitarist. I've never been able to appreciate any metal bands, though, or any of the 80's "big hair" bands.

I remember the teletubbies thing also but can't remember what it was all about. I still let them watch the teletubbies. I watched a whole episode one time when I heard it. I saw nothing wrong. The thing is also I have let my girls watch some stuff growing up that I know some parents and family members didn't let their kids watch. If some kids were over that I knew were not suppose to watch a certain show my kids knew not to watch it. One of the big ones was always the Simpson's. I always just told people when they asked me something stupid like "why would you let your kids watch something like that?" My reply "They have to live in the real world and Bart Simpson is pretty tame." lol. The only thing that made me mad is I never questioned them. That is before they questioned me, then things would always get a little witchy. lol.

I think the Teletubbies controversy stemmed from one of the male Teletubbies carrying what someone (Jerry Falwell?) claimed was a purse. Naturally, if a male character carries something that resembles a purse, he's just gotta be gay!

But, it's still not my favorite genre. Funny thing about the 80's... My mom used to be a full on punker, Mohawk and all. I don't like the punk music as much as the classic rock, but it's still all enjoyAble.

Ethan, does your mom look back fondly on her punk roots? Is she still a bit of a rebel or does she blend right in with the rest of the moms? Punk has never been my thing. It's too manic, and there's not enough variety in the sound. Some of the bands are interesting to read about, though, or to see in a documentary film--The Ramones, for instance.

Well she's a nurse now, so she blends in a bit. But she still exhibits that sense of direction. I mean, she listens to relatively close music, and still enjoys reminiscing. Its a lot different now, though, comparatively.
