There used to be a thread here where people would post some of their favorites, and I always found that thread interesting to look at. Maybe we can get something going again....

Favorite Bands: Rammstein, Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte, Oomph!, Eisbrecher, Megaherz, Wir Sind Helden, Staubkind. Those are my favorite... now a few who people might actually know: Breaking Benjamin, Basshunter, Sublime, Metallica, etc...

Favorite Composers: Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer, Martin O'Donnell.

It's interesting that you list so many German bands. I had to google most of those as I had never even heard of them (aside from Rammstein).

I tease my sister about Spongebob, because she won't let her kids watch that show. It's kind of sad, though, because it's such a charming cartoon. But, my sister believed what some televangelist said about the show (that it has an evil agenda), so the kids don't get to see it.

What in the heck did a televangelist have to say about a sponge? lol. But I am seriously asking.

There was some controversy several years ago because the Spongebob character was featured in a "tolerance of diversity" video that was made available to schools. There wasn't any mention of sexuality in the video (I haven't seen it, but I've read about it), but some evangelicals claimed the video was meant to teach kids that it's okay to be gay (blah, blah, blah...).  Also, on the Spongebob show, there is a pink starfish named Patrick who is Spongebob's best friend. There was at least one episode where Patrick and Spongebob were shown holding hands (I didn't see the episode, so I don't know the context). Some people saw this as evidence that Patrick and Spongebob are gay.  The producers of the show denied this and denied that the show has a "gay agenda."  So, anyway, my sister agrees with the evangelicals who think the show is pro-gay, and she won't let her kids watch.

Rammstein is my favorite, I know all 70+ songs by heart. I know most of the Oomph! and Die Toten Hosen songs too, but they weren't as good as Rammstein. That was around the time I shut inside myself, all I would do is listen to music. It was also around the time that a German/Australian foreigner became my best friend (we were both pretty awkward and different). He taught me a lot of the German I know, and I learned the rest on my own. I can speak it pretty fluently now, but unfortunately, I can't learn it all for the sole reason that all they offer at my school is Spanish and French (I HATE Spanish [no offense meant towards native speakers])

So, anyway, my sister agrees with the evangelicals who think the show is pro-gay, and she won't let her kids watch.
I see where the idea that the show has a so-called 'homosexual theme' comes into play, but I think its all just a harmless and goofy portrayal of diverse characters. My brother and I enjoy it, but that's the only television show I watch that isn't too mature for him. South Park is my other favorite.

I sort of lost interest in "South Park" about a year ago. The recent episodes I'd seen just weren't doing it for me--the show seemed to have lost its spark.  I recorded a couple of episodes last week, though, including one that parodies Facebook. When I heard about that episode it sounded like a must-see. Now, I just have to find the time to watch it...

Well, the "South Park" Facebook episode was hilarious and spot-on. I might even get back into the habit of watching the show. There seemed to be more bleeped words than usual, or maybe I'd just forgotten how potty-mouthed the show can be? I always think that aspect of the show is a bit too much. The show isn't funny because of the abundance of naughty words. It's funny in spite of that...

lol. No offense to your sister but sometimes adults read way to much into nothing. The only kids that would see the reference to being gay ( if there is one) are the older children, and then thats life. some of them already know they are gay. I will never understand this though, no one would choose to be gay for the fun of it. My middle daughters best friend is gay. She's not. He tells her how gorgeous she is everyday and wants nothing from her, except her friendship. :)

Tammy,

I think it's possible the people behind the SpongeBob show did indeed sneak in some sly gay references (or whatever you want to call it), but I think you're right that little kids would not pick up on the references. Heck, that sort of thing would probably sail right over MY head if it's not pointed out to me.  And, I think if the SpongeBob writers did sneak a few things in they did it to amuse the adults who watch the show (and the show does have many adult fans), not to brainwash or indoctrinate the little tykes who are watching!

I'm sure they did. Any cartoon you watch now they sneak in the adult humor. Even the classics like grease. My older daughter didn't know what a lot of the referenceswere about until she was about 13. We just talked about it the other day and she was laughing about the song greased lightning, she didn't have a clue. She watched it a million times and sang the song.It took a long time before she got any of it.

In your daughter's defense, I didn't even know the true lyrics to the song until just now. I've heard it like, twice maybe? So, yeah... now I DEFINITELY see what you mean! Pretty funny how kids tend to not pick up on those things. I enjoy going back through old movies and shows I used to watch, just to catch those little snippets.
